Chas, thanks so much for posting that video! i wanted to go to Mr. Holdt’s retirement celebration but had to cancel my RSVP at the last minute due to a last minute trip. now i don’t feel left out.

You made me laugh. You made me cry.
You made me very, very glad that I passed up the Hillary Clinton step-down speech to hear your Holdt tribute on Saturday instead.
We’re facing college tuition bills that are staggering these days and every now and again the thought crosses my mind that we COULD have / SHOULD have taken advantage of West Hartford Public School System and we’d be in a lot better shape right now….But David Holdt was large part of the “Why Watkinson” for our family. I went on Saturday simply because I was thankful. You made me more so! Nice job!

I love the image of a little tomato endlessly spinning at the top of an escalator! It’s such a rich metaphor for our situation: organic life being continuously pushed along by technology but not actually going anywhere. And the image of cold hard metal playing with a small, soft, smooth fruit without damaging it is wonderful. It is an otherwise trivial event that radiates the beauty of life and opens our mind up to a different perspective. How inspiring!

(You’re right though, we should come up with something other than “an American Beauty moment” - although i know exactly what you mean. Perhaps we could just say that it is a moment of Beauty??)

So why did it take you so long to discover yoga? and what finally triggered your conversion?

The irony is that, despite all your space-saving efforts, yoga is one of the few things that you can’t do in your apartment. Or do you have a solution to that??
